January 2016 and WiVLA is the place to be!

WiVLA is about women exploring their creativity.  WiVLA is unique because our mission is about creative development where both artists and writers have found a home.  WiVLA has changed the creative lives of many women beyond their wildest dreams. The programs at WiVLA’s monthly meetings, the third Tuesday of each month (except December) at the Printing Museum on W. Clay, present local women artists and writers who share their creative journeys and stimulate us with their insights and successes.

In 2016 we have two major shows: the Library Show and the “Windows” Collaboration Show. The Library Show, “Inspired by Her Quote” will open March 8, 2016 at the Houston Central Library, 500 McKinney Street.  Our Opening on March 8 is International Women’s Day which we will celebrate at our Reception with art and writing inspired by quotes by women – some famous and some not so famous. The reception is open to the public and is scheduled from 4 to 7 pm. At 6:30 pm the WiVLA writers will read works “Inspired by Her Quote” and all participants will receive a chapbook of the readings in the show. The show closes on March 31.

One of the things WiVLA has become known for is our collaborations where a writer and an artist work together to create both a literary and a visual presentation that, perhaps, alone, they never would have conceived. Not only have significant works come out of the collaborations, but lasting friendships have been made as our members collaborated. Additionally, all of our collaborations have resulted in an Anthology where all the works, literary and visual, are compiled in an attractive collector’s edition.

This year’s collaboration is “Windows” where one writer and one visual artist will explore the topic of “Windows. “ The venue for “Windows” is the exciting Brazosport Center for Arts and Sciences, 400 College Boulevard, Klute, Texas. Our opening reception – open to the public – will be on September 17 from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  Our writers will read from the Anthology beginning at 6:45pm.

WiVLA workshops are open to all as are WiVLA meetings and both can be found on our website along with our newsletter that comes out the first of every month.

Looking forward to this year I can be certain that women who come to WiVLA will:

  • Be inspired and encouraged to work more seriously on their creative lives.
  • Find friendships with like-minded creative women.
  • Learn more about themselves and how to increase their creative endeavors.
  • Have opportunities to participate in WiVLA events, shows and readings.

far from where he lives or a few feet away.
It is always on his doorstep."
