Literary Readings and Competitions
Throughout the year, WiVLA hosts and co-sponsors a variety of literary events. During poetry month, members share their poetry at public library events. For the past few years, members have shared poetry and flash fiction during our November member meeting. Since 2021, WiVLA has partnered with Brazos Bookstore during the fall to tell scary ghost stories.
During April Poetry Month, our poets share their talents at local libraries.
During our November meeting, members share poetry and flash fiction during our member meeting. This tradition started many years ago when we participated in readings at Archway Gallery.
One of our newer literary traditions is Haunted Holidays, which can include any holiday in the fourth quarter of the year. These readings take place at Brazos Bookstore.
We recently started collaborating with the Houston Writers Guild to co-host a writing competition. The theme for 2024 is Journey Into Time.
Poetry by the Bay
On April 20, WiVLA members met at the LaPorte Library. The LaPorte Library has proven to be the most hospitable host on the Gulf Coast. Take a peek at the video from the 2024 event.
Haunted Holidays
Mark your calendar for November 9, when members will dress to scare or be spooked during our readings at Brazos Bookstore. Since its inception, we have co-hosted this event with Houston Writers Guild. Take a peek at the video from the 2023 event.
Pearl-Themed Readings
In keeping with the theme of our 30th anniversary, the theme for the November readings is Pearl.
2024 Writing Competition: Journey Into Time
